How to Create a Body Wash for Your Brand
Share
Developing a body wash means balancing cleansing, skin feel, fragrance, foam, viscosity and dispensing. Start with how the product will be used, then assess a surfactant system and packaging together. A pleasant laboratory sample still needs stability and microbiological work appropriate to its formula.
What should the body wash brief specify?
Define the customer, everyday or occasional use, wash-off experience and target price. Describe the desired foam and after-feel separately: abundant foam does not itself demonstrate a better product. Fragrance-free and unscented need precise definitions, because masking fragrance and the raw materials’ own odour may matter to the brief.
Why do viscosity and dispensing need joint testing?
A formula that pours well from a bottle may behave differently through a pump. Temperature, fragrance and other ingredients can affect clarity and thickness. Evaluate the pack at expected storage conditions, including leakage, pump output and the amount needed to create the intended wash experience. A thick texture alone is not evidence of stability.
How should you compare samples?
Use the same application amount and water conditions when recording foam, rinse-off and residue. Keep fragrance selection separate from acceptance of the cleansing base so one preference does not hide another issue. Ask for the proposed stability, preservative and packaging checks, then lock the approved formula and pack before production.
What should you include in the project brief?
- Target customer, usage occasion and intended cosmetic claims.
- Desired foam, scent, colour and rinse-off feel.
- Ingredient exclusions and whether fragrance-free is required.
- Bottle or pump format and expected dose.
- Benchmark product, commercial quantity and retail price.
