Cosmetic Product Testing and Testing Pathways
Choose testing around the formula, intended use, claims and final packaging. Australian Private Label’s listed cosmetic testing services cover different questions: physical stability, packaging compatibility, microbiological protection and safety or tolerability assessment. A suitable programme is defined for the individual product.
Which testing question are you trying to answer?
- Stability testing: assess changes in relevant product characteristics over defined storage conditions.
- Compatibility testing: assess the formula and proposed packaging together.
- Preservative efficacy testing: evaluate the preservation system using the applicable test scope.
- Total viable count testing: a microbiological check that answers a different question from preservative efficacy.
- Toxicological risk assessment: review the relevant safety assessment scope.
- Patch testing: discuss the appropriate tolerability assessment and its limitations.
Prepare the test brief
Supply the complete formula or relevant specifications through the agreed secure project process, intended use, application area, packaging, claims and destination markets. Ask which methods, sample quantities, observation periods and acceptance criteria apply. One test result does not automatically establish every claim or a universal shelf life.
When should testing be planned?
Discuss the programme during development, before bulk packaging orders and final artwork. Formula or component changes may affect earlier evidence. Keep the approved formula, pack specifications and reports together so production uses the configuration that was assessed.
