How to Manufacture a Face Oil
Share
A face oil is usually an anhydrous blend designed around skin feel, oxidation control and packaging. Development should balance spreadability, absorption, odour and ingredient compatibility. Being water-free changes the testing questions; it does not remove the need for stability, safety and packaging assessment.
How do you build the sensory brief?
Describe the desired slip, richness and residual feel using benchmark products. Consider whether the oil is used alone, under a cream or as the final step in a routine. Colour and raw-material odour can influence the customer’s experience even when no fragrance is added. Record the application amount used when judging samples.
What affects storage stability?
Oil selection, raw-material quality, light, oxygen and storage temperature can influence changes over time. Antioxidant strategy addresses oxidation; it should not be confused with antimicrobial preservation. Essential oils and botanical extracts require suitability review for the intended use rather than being treated as automatically beneficial.
Which packaging checks matter?
Compare dropper output with pump output and the intended application dose. Check seals, leaks, decoration and component compatibility with the actual blend. Packaging that looks premium may still allow excessive oxygen exposure or unreliable dispensing. Use the final pack in the stability programme before making shelf-life decisions.
What should you include in the project brief?
- Desired skin feel, application amount and use occasion.
- Carrier oils, exclusions and fragrance direction.
- Colour and odour acceptance criteria.
- Dropper or pump performance and pack compatibility.
- Oxidation, stability and labelling review responsibilities.
