Private Label Lip Balm Manufacturing Guide
Share
Private label lip balm development involves the balm’s firmness, payoff, melt behaviour, flavour or fragrance direction and pack. A stock formula can provide a starting point; a custom brief allows different sensory targets. Confirm the formula’s suitability for the proposed lip use and claims before production.
How do you choose a stick, pot or tube?
A twist-up stick needs enough strength to survive application and enough slip to transfer product. A pot permits a different consistency but introduces finger contact. A squeeze tube needs a formula that dispenses reliably through its opening. Select the format before fixing the formula, because a successful pot balm is not automatically a successful stick.
What can go wrong during storage?
Oil separation, graininess, sweating and loss of shape are practical development concerns. Assess the formula over temperature changes and in its final pack rather than relying only on a freshly poured sample. Fragrance, flavour, colour and raw-material changes can alter the result, so substitutions need review.
What should you approve before manufacturing?
Evaluate application feel, residue, odour and the amount delivered using the intended packaging. Confirm ingredient suitability, label information and the testing plan. SPF or therapeutic positioning requires specialist regulatory review; do not add such claims simply because the product contains a popular ingredient.
What should you include in the project brief?
- Lip-use format, finish and target customer.
- Stick, pot or tube dimensions and dispensing requirements.
- Desired hardness, glide and residue.
- Flavour, fragrance, colour and ingredient exclusions.
- Stability, pack compatibility, label review and commercial quantity.
