Supplement Manufacturing MOQs for Powders, Capsules and Sachets
Share
Supplement manufacturing minimums depend on the formula, batch process, pack format and component supply. There is no reliable universal MOQ for powders, capsules and sachets. Ask for a project-specific minimum and a cost breakdown using the same specification before comparing manufacturers.
Why do different formats have different minimums?
A bulk powder blend, a capsule-filling run and a sachet-packing run use different equipment and setup. Raw-material purchasing quantities, testing and cleaning can also affect the economical batch size. A formula with a specialist ingredient may face a supply minimum separate from the manufacturing minimum.
What is the difference between batch and packaging minimums?
The minimum blend quantity does not necessarily equal the number of finished packs you must buy. Divide the usable batch by the pack’s net weight to estimate units, then account for process loss and agreed tolerances. Printed films, jars and cartons may have their own purchasing commitments and lead times.
How should founders compare MOQ quotes?
Request development, raw materials, blending, filling, testing, packaging and freight as separate scope items where possible. Compare total cash required, cost per sellable unit and the risk of excess inventory. A smaller run can reduce exposure while carrying a higher unit cost; the right decision depends on demand and reorder timing.
What should you include in the project brief?
- Formula and regulatory category.
- Net weight or capsule count per pack.
- Loose powder, capsule or sachet format.
- Stock versus custom printed components.
- First-run quantity, total budget and forecast reorder volume.
