Private Label Body Scrub: Formula, Packaging and Testing

A body scrub combines an exfoliating medium with a base that controls application, rinse-off and storage behaviour. Particle size, concentration, base texture and packaging all shape the experience. Evaluate the product in realistic shower use, including the possibility that water enters the pack.

What determines the exfoliating feel?

The particle material, shape and size affect how the scrub feels during use. Specify the intended body area and user instructions rather than asking only for a “strong” scrub. A finer-looking particle is not enough to establish suitability; the complete product and manner of application need assessment.

How does the base change manufacturing requirements?

An oil-based scrub behaves differently from an emulsion or cleansing scrub. Particles may settle, dissolve or change the texture depending on the system. Record how evenly the sample dispenses and whether the first and last portions feel consistent. Assess rinse-off and residue as well as exfoliation.

Why test the pack and use conditions?

A jar is convenient for a thick scrub but may be handled with wet fingers. A tube can reduce direct contact yet may clog if its opening is unsuitable for the particles. A water-free starting formula still needs a microbiological risk assessment that considers likely consumer use. Test leakage and compatibility with oils and fragrance.

What should you include in the project brief?

  • Particle material, size range and intended body area.
  • Oil-based, emulsion or cleansing base.
  • Expected water exposure and use instructions.
  • Jar or tube opening, fill size and leakage checks.
  • Stability, microbiological risk and sensory acceptance criteria.
